Breathing Exercise

The correct way to master the art of Tai Chi is to begin with the practices of a stationary posture and of set of repeated exercises. Such exercises look simple and slow, but they are bases of all Tai Chi forms, and distinguish Tai Chi from other aerobic sports. The first one is Respiration Exercise - practice to breathe tranquilly and smoothly. It helps to regulate your breath, enable your breath to become deep and long, and allows your Chi to sink to the Dan Tian.

Based on such exercise, you can experience the joyful feeling rising from your body, also it gets rid of tiredness. For later practice of Tai Chi forms, good breath habits ensure your movements to be continuous without stopping, from the beginning to the end; like an endless circle. This is what the Classics means by "a great river flowing continuously never ending", or "moving the jin like reeling silk from a cocoon". The above conveys the idea of stringing the movements together into one harmonious chi.
